Bob Dylan had searched for an artist to interpret a dream or vision he'd had. He described exactly what he'd seen and knew exactly what he wanted to see. Versions of the picture were worked on over several weeks during the period TW also took photographs for the cover at a series of concerts. CBS were not happy with the image being overtly religious and lately the cover has been replaced by a drawing made for the inner sleeve that was only intended as a background for copy.
